"The devil you pay"
For every man who gave his all but never got to rise
For every mother who suffers hungry baby's cries
For every bird and beast that's breathing poison skies
For every child that's been hurt, forgotten or left behind
For every crop not used to feed the starving ones
For every gangster who finds his higher power in guns
For every right that's been twisted into a wrong
For every wolf who feasts on the lambs when they come
In answer to this all I can only say
Every crime leaves behind a heavy price to pay
And everything owed will come due someday
When all the masks you wear will be torn away
If your dealing in sins, it's the devil you pay.
Mired in despair they shuffle on through the frost
Blind and unaware of the lines they had crossed
By design they got the ride but could not pay the cost
Gambled freedom against a golden prize and they lost
They got tied up and bound by shallow desires within
Each choice lead to failure leaving no way to win
They were too blind to see the game had no end
Embracing illusions like some long lost old friend
For every home that sits under constant threat
For every media devil that tries to make them forget
For every tired, cold, homeless and haunted vet
For every abandoned carcass that was once a pet
For every family that's been forced to grieve and mourn
For every home that's been broken and every bloody thorn
For every time they fought but got ripped and torn
For every miracle of life that never got to be born
In answer to this all I can only say
Every crime leaves behind a heavy price to pay
And everything owed will come due someday
When all the masks you wear will be torn away
If your dealing in sins, it's the devil you pay.
